The 10-week College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) Summer Internship Program provides unparalleled hands-on education and experience to qualified undergraduate students who wish to pursue careers in the nanotechnology industry and the cutting-edge fields of nanoscale science, nanoscale engineering, nanobioscience and nanoeconomics.

Students will work closely with CNSE’s world-class faculty, staff, post-doctoral researchers and graduate students on innovative research involving CNSE and its industry-leading partner companies located on-site at CNSE’s Albany NanoTech Complex, the most advanced research enterprise at any university in the world.

What is the CNSE internship experience?

While at CNSE, interns have the unique opportunity to participate in projects that integrate state-of-the-art research currently underway at CNSE. At the conclusion of the internship program, students will showcase their research at a poster presentation session, presenting their results to CNSE’s faculty, students, staff and representatives of its global corporate partners.

Past research projects have explored nanoscale-enabled innovations for a variety of technologies, including fuel cells, EUV optics, nanoparticle-stem cell interaction, alternative energy sources, market analysis in nanotechnology products and more.

Who should apply?

Undergraduate students who are seeking a one-of-a-kind experience working with world-class faculty and industry-leading companies in cutting-edge facilities should apply for the CNSE Summer Internship Program.

The paid CNSE Summer Internship Program includes national and international undergraduate students chosen from a highly competitive pool of applicants. An academic background in the physical, chemical, biological or computer sciences, mathematics, or engineering is required. Prior research experience is not required for consideration.

Program details

The duration of the internship program is 10 weeks beginning on Monday, June 4 through Friday, August 10, 2012. Interns must commit to the entire 10 week duration; absences will be excused for illness and family emergency only.

The award of CNSE Summer Internships is competitively based and a stipend of $345 per week, for a total of $3,450.00 for 10 weeks (maximum of 40 hours per week) is offered to each intern.

Expenses related to travel, lodging and meals are the responsibility of each intern. Limited on-campus housing is available at standard UAlbany summer rates. Further information regarding housing and meal plans at UAlbany will be sent to awardees with offer letters.

Application Information

To apply for the 2012 CNSE Summer Internship Program, students must complete an online application form, as well as submit a statement of interest, resume and unofficial school transcript.

The deadline for submission is Friday, February 17, 2012 at 5:00 pm EST, and applications received after this will not be considered. Awardees will be notified via email on or around March 16, 2012.
