2011 Highlights
NANOvember
Thousands of people attended CNSE’s fourth annual “NANOvember” celebration, with events such as “Nano vs. Nature;” two first-ever initiatives, a “Nano Discovery Program” with the Albany and Troy Police Athletic Leagues and the Capital Region Nanotechnology Showcase with the Times Union’s Newspapers in Education program; and the popular CNSE Community Day and Community Lecture Series.
CNSE Community Day
The 2011 CNSE Community Day drew a record crowd of more than 1,200 people from the Capital Region and beyond, who received an up-close look at the exciting world of nanotechnology through hands-on activities, engaging demonstrations, timely presentations and guided tours of CNSE’s unparalleled Albany NanoTech Complex.
NanoQuin World
Visitors at Crossgates Mall are learning firsthand how nanotechnology has become an integral part of everyday life through CNSE’s unique “NanoQuin World.” This exhibit will be on display through December 2012.
Tech Valley Business Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction Ceremony
More than 500 business, government and community leaders were in attendance as Dr. Alain E. Kaloyeros, Professor, Senior Vice President and CEO of CNSE, was inducted into the Tech Valley Business Hall of Fame. This preeminent business award in the Capital Region recognizes individuals who are noted for their leadership in enhancing free enterprise and their contributions to the community.
CEG 2011 Annual Meeting
CNSE hosted over 300 business, government and community leaders at the 2011 Annual Meeting of the Center for Economic Growth (CEG), which celebrated CEG’s 25th anniversary and featured a keynote address by CNSE’s Dr. Alain Kaloyeros.
Business Review’s 2011 Achievers Awards
The Business Review presented CNSE’s Dr. Alain Kaloyeros with the “Game Changer Award” at its 2011 Achievers Awards event for his impact on the local economy and “for changing the way we do business or live our lives.” The Achievers awards program was created in 1983 to recognize outstanding companies and individuals for their contributions to the growth of the Capital Region business community.
CNSE Hosts Business and Community Leaders from the Mohawk Valley
CNSE hosted more than 100 business and community leaders from the Mohawk Valley for a tour of CNSE’s Albany NanoTech Complex, followed by a presentation highlighting New York’s global leadership in nanotechnology. The visit was prompted by the growing partnership between CNSE and SUNYIT to enable nanotechnology-related education, innovation and economic development.
New York State Business Plan Competition
CNSE partnered with UAlbany’s School of Business, the Lally School of Management and Technology at Rensselaer, and Union Graduate College School of Management to present the New York State Business Plan Competition, which was held at CNSE on April 28 and saw 20 student-run teams from colleges and universities across the state compete for cash prizes.
Pine Bush Preserve Cleanup
CNSE students, faculty and staff celebrated Earth Day by volunteering their time at the Albany Pine Bush Preserve to clean up litter and debris. The beautification project was a partnership between CNSE and the Albany Pine Bush Preserve Commission.
